Preschool Classroom News
November 2009
The Preschool classroom has been very busy exploring community helpers. The children have designed and built a fire engine, went to visit the fire station, learned about different types of fire engines, read books, made a classroom book and learned songs.
We are now very excited about writing letters and mailing them to our families and friends. We are examining the various types of mailboxes we see in our community, designing and constructing our own classroom mailbox and hope to visit the post office and have a visit from a postal worker.
School to home connection: We are asking all families to write a letter to your child and bring it to school. We will as a classroom, mail the letters to the children at Tot Lot, so that all of the children can receive mail at school-how exciting and then write back to you! We have put paper and envelopes into each of your mailboxes so please return your child's letter as soon as possible.
The children are very excited about Spotty our frog-yes he finally morphed into a frog! The children spent several days brainstorming names for the Frog and then through surveying, voted on the name Spotty! We borrowed a learning kit on frogs from the aquarium and will be learning about the life cycle of frogs as well as frog habitats.
The children went to the library and borrowed books to extend our learning about frogs and the post office!
We want to thank families for coming into our preschool classroom and sharing occupations and passions!
We had several delicious cooking projects!
Tselha's mom and grandmother came in and taught us how to make dumplings
Sasha's mom came in and baked healthy muffins with us!
Sophie's mom came in and helped us bake special healthy cupcakes to celebrate Sophie's 4th birthday!
Caroline's mom-a pediatrician came in and shared her occupation with us at moring meeting. Sahsha's mom came in and shared her occuptaion as a veterinarian which went along with the children's interest in the book, Doctor Meow's Big Emergency "Kiss it Better Hospital" and helping keep animals and friends healthy and safe!
Whitney, Sky's mom came in over several days and helped us make a classroom book, taking pictures with cameras on a walk through the neighborhood. The children also wrote the text for the book, it is amazing, check it out in our classroom library!

Please feel free to come into the classroom either to share something special about yourself and or family or to just spend some time participating in our daily routine and experiences!
